Must haves for a holiday tablescape

When planning your tablescape I would make sure you
are looking at the table as an entirety and not just one element, its every little detail that contributes to the overall finished look.

Here's a list of my must-have elements:

A Gorgeous Centrepiece

This could consist of a beautiful glitter or pine garland, an abundance of candlesticks and votives and some feature decor such as a beautiful reindeer or an illuminated glass ornate Christmas tree. Adding twinkle lights to your central display is definitely the show stopper for your tablescape so make sure that it’s a showpiece. I would say lots of candles are a must have!

A Table Runner

This is the central part that ties everything together and acts as a base to your centrepiece. Having a table runner in beautiful fabric that matches with your napkins ties everything nicely together.

Placemats

Each place setting should have a distinctive placemat that firstly demarcates each seat but it gives your table more of a luxury edge. You want to make sure that when guests sit at your holiday table it feels more special than other moments throughout the year.

Charger Plates

A tablescape is definitely not complete without a show stopping decorative glass charger plate. This is your opportunity to bring real finesse to your table.

Fabric Napkins

Paper napkins are a real no no! If you want to create a luxury tablescape you need a quality linen napkin. I generally use machine washable napkins so that I can use them again and again.

Napkin Rings or Napkin Detailing

You can't have a gorgeous napkin without a showpiece napkin ring! If napkin rings aren't your thing then you definitely need a really special touch that goes onto the napkin. This could be some cinnamon sticks or even a little gift for your guest.

Stylish Cutlery

Does your cutlery match the rest of your table? This is often one element that gets overlooked, however it's one aspect that adds to the entire look so it's important. I love using stylish pieces that are comfortable to use and have an elegant finish to them which complements your table decor.

Showstopper Glass

We all look forward to a drink on Christmas day, so why not make it extra special in the way you serve to your guests.  I’d recommend a stylish champagne coupe to make your table extra special.

Finishing Touches

Making your table a talking point is always fun. I always love to add special features. For Christmas tablescapes I scatter the table with snow and diamantes. For Hanukkah tablescapes we have dreidels. When it comes to autumn, autumnal leaves and pine cones are a must have and the list goes on!

question

Where do you find your inspiration when setting a table?

I'm a multi-award winning event stylist based in Manchester, UK. I have styled events such as the Queen Charlotte's Ball, Celebrity Weddings & Luxury Corporate Gala Dinners. I like to take ideas from my large events and downscale them to bring a luxury vibe to my tablescape settings at home. Throughout the year I love to create tablescapes for different seasons and special occasions. I also love to be super creative when it comes to tablescapes and I'm not scared to be bold with the decor, especially as I live and breathe it everyday of my life!

question

Rules of Tablescaping & Ones that are fun to break?

To create a luxury tablescape layer your place setting. Start with a beautiful place mat, followed by a statement glass charger plate. You can always create an elegant look to your table with feature charger plates. My favourite style at the moment are our scalloped edge charger plates. On top of this you can place your dinner plate, topped with a stylish napkin and statement napkin ring.

Fun rules to break - well I think there are no strict rules when it comes to tablescaping and you should have fun with your tables, especially if it enhances the experience for your guests. For the holiday season I love to scatter my tables with snow and diamantes for that added seasonal sparkle! I love thinking out the box 'excuse the pun' when it comes to tablescaping. One of my favourite tablescapes I created was for a family who loved skiing. We wanted to create a ski lodge vibe and adorned the table with antlers, hurricane vases and pillar candles, show and fur-like throws on the back of each chair.
